I am quite fond of theoretical mathematics, even though I am not a formal or professional mathematician, although I certainly am by love, interest, and relative skill. One of the curious aspects of theoretical mathematics is that it's really quite purposeless. That is, there is no practical application to any of it, but that doesn't detract from its beautiful nature. The puzzle that is mathematics is its own kind of joy. Likewise, much of the outsider art canon, or at least some of it, is also called quite purposeless, and I find all of these trappings of overly self-important art theories and canons to be dreadfully and utterly annoying. Therefore, my artistic practice is unapologetically anarchic, art for art's sake, akin to the joy of the puzzle like mathematics, creating is fun, and also like mathematics, there is a sublime design and system to self-expression that knows no limits but itself, is still and like mathematics, intrinsically integral and bound to our understanding of life, our collective humanity, and the mysterious universe in which we reside. Too often, artists get caught up in the game of the art world, and I can't help but feel as though they lose a bit of not just themselves in that game, but also a bit of their art in the process. Well, I won't allow a "game" to undermine what I hold dear: madcap energy, controlled insanity, and hyper-multimedia neuroses, in the name of making satire, art, and other cool stuff. In the words of the hippie ice cream folks, Ben & Jerry's 'if it's not fun, why do it?'
